How I got here

2000: CB radio
I started on CB, talking with random folks driving around and the retired guys in their CB/ham shacks. Then I got married, moved to Tennessee, and drifted off to other hobbies and time with my wife and, later, our kids.

Late 2022 or early 2023: a challenge
The Linux Unplugged podcast challenged its listeners to get their ham licenses, and plenty of us joined in. I started studying for the Technician exam, on and off, for the next year or so.

June 2024: Technician
Field Day was coming, so I set a deadline. After a dozen successful practice tests on hamstudy.org, I passed, just in time.

February 2025: General
Field Day was amazing and made me want HF. Since earning my General I’ve been having a ball on FT8 and SSB.

Now: learning CW
I’m working on Morse code and helped beta test a new training app, Morse Forge.
